Jessica Phillips is Acting Principal Clarinet at the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She serves on the faculties at Rutgers and Columbia Universities, teaches E-Flat clarinet at The Juilliard School, and is also available for private lessons.

Ms. Phillips has played clarinet at the Met since 2000 and won the 2nd Clarinet audition in 2001. She has been on many of the Live From Lincoln Center Broadcasts, as well as many MET recordings. She has also played in Carnegie Hall’s Weill and Zankel Halls with the MET Chamber Ensemble. She was invited to perform with James Levine on E-Flat for the Inauguration of Zankel Hall in 2003.

Jessica Phillips graduated cum laude from Barnard College, Columbia University, with a degree in Political Science and Music. While at Barnard, she was accepted into the joint music program with Manhattan School of Music, where she studied clarinet under Ricardo Morales. Her other teachers include David Weber, Ted Oien, and Todd Levy.

Ms. Phillips has worked closely with Backun Musical Services to promote and design products for E-Flat clarinet and was an integral part of the formation of the Morales Backun products. Currently Ms. Phillips plays on a prototype Backun Cocobolo Bb Clarinet and is working with Morrie designing another Backun Mouthpiece model called the “MET”.

She is a Rico Artist and plays Rico Reserve reeds and a BG Artist using both the Super Revelation Ligature and the new Duo Ligature.

Ms. Phillips lives on the upper west in Manhattan with her husband Rob, and two dogs Luna and Lola. She is a passionate photographer, and loves running, cooking, hiking and travelling.
